Roland Cabezas

(guitarist / singer / composer)

Roland, son of spanish/german parents, based in Hamburg (Germany) and Málaga (Spain), has worked as a professional musician all over the world since 1988.

In 1994 Roland graduated with vocational honors from Hollywood/California’s renowned Musicians Institute (GIT).

He has performed and / or recorded over the years with artists such as Toni Braxton, Marcus Miller, Trilok Gurtu, Jan Garbarek, Omar Sosa, NDR bigband, Deodato, Simon Phillips (TOTO), Gary Husband and many others ....

As well as being a touring guitarist and singer, Roland did record guitars and basses on the first two albums for the german chart topping band Orange Blue.
He was also featured guest singer (and co-writer) on Orange Blue's 2nd hit single „Can Somebody Tell Me", which was used on the european version of Walt Disney’s animation movie Dinosaur.
In addition to playing and singing, in 2000 he started building a reputation as a songwriter while involved as co-writer on Orange Blue's platinum album In Love With A Dream.

Several releases for the westlondon-based NuJazz labels Papa Records and Defected Records carry his signuature funkguitar riffs, produced by the talented keyboarder / producer Simon Grey (former tour member of Incognito).

2006 he joined the touring band of indian drum & percussion virtuoso and world music great Trilok Gurtu, who formerly was a member of world-fusion pioneers Oregon and played with guitar legend John McLaughlin amongst many others.

Extensive touring through Europe in 2008 / 2009 gave Roland the oportunity to play not only with Trilok and his great band, but also with guesting stars like Jan Garbarek, Oumou Sangare and Juan Carmona.

The jazz/soul quartet JAZUL he put together alongside his longtime friends and talented musicians Ingolf Burkhardt, Achim Rafain and "Dezzie" Paulicke in 2007 (Albums: "WHAT...?" / rent-a-dog 2007  &  "That...!" / C.A.R.E. music 2009) toured successfully Germany and beyond and are promoting now their third album "Inda Commune" (rebutuba 2011) that got released recently ! Towards the end of 2009 he also had the pleasure to play a Warner Bros. showcase with multiple Grammy award winner Toni Braxton featuring him on acoustic guitar teaming up with renowned piano player & M.D. Rob Lewis.

2010 saw Roland performing with top artists as Trilok Gurtu, Jan Garbarek, Shankar Mahadevan, Omar Sosa (feat. Horacio „El Negro“ Hernandez), NDR bigband (feat. T. Gurtu, Simon Phillips & Michel Alibo), Eumir Deodato, Jaques Morelenbaum, Colin Towns, Gary Husband and others ...

During this year he caught the attention of canadian guitar company GODIN who signed him as an official endorser alongside fellow players like John McLaughlin & Lionel Loueke.

The Trilok Gurtu w/ Simon Phillips + NDR bigband project was recorded live in 2010 and got released in Feb. 2011 under critical acclaim with the album „21 Spices“ (BirdJAM 2011), featuring Roland C. as guest soloist with Michel Alibo.

The summer 2011 proved to be quite a highlight in his career, giving him the oportunity to play with bass-legend Marcus Miller (with Trilok Gurtu & Band in Gdansk/Poland) for an enthusiastic crowd.
